Cocktail History

The Apple Cider Mimosa is an autumn cocktail that was created by Laura Rege of Delish, an online food and beverage blog. The recipe uses the original Mimosa template that calls for sparkling wine and fruit juice, but instead of citrus, this fall-inspired version mixes in fresh apple cider and a dash of cinnamon, making it perfect for an autumn brunch.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Sparkling Wine: This is a carbonated wine made with white or red grapes. We used La Marca Prosecco because it has a crisp and refreshing taste with floral notes. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Gruvi Non-Alcoholic Prosecco in place of the sparkling wine.

Apple Cider: This is a beverage made with freshly pressed apple juice and baking spices. We used The Glass Orchard Apple Cider because it’s fresh, delicious, and made locally to us.

Ground Cinnamon: This is a spice. We used Simply Organic Ground Cinnamon.

Apple: This is a red fruit with a mealy texture. We used a Honeycrisp apple.

Bartending Tools

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:

Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. We used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Bar Spoon: This is used to stir ingredients. We used the Barfly Stainless Steel Teardrop Bar Spoon.

Apple Corer: This is used to core and slice apples. We used the OXO Good Grips Apple Corer, Slicer, & Divider.

Tasting Notes

The Apple Cider Mimosa has the classic autumnal aromas of cinnamon and apple followed by those same flavors in the taste, which are then complemented by an effervescent wine-accented zest that mingles with spiced apple on the finish.

Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: While the Apple Cider Mimosa really didn’t blow us away with any sort of complexity, its beauty lies in the simplicity. It’s a very easy drink to make! Plus, it complements any fall foods and is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Alex’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐
“The Mimosa journey continues, this time with apple cider. The spiced apple flavors complement wine surprisingly well, which actually makes plenty of sense given how often “non-alcoholic champagnes” served to kids and non-drinkers at New Years and at other events are just sparkling apple ciders. Although there’s not much noteworthy to say of this recipe, it certainly is a good alternative for a morning sipper on some of the family holidays of the latter half of the year!”

Kendall’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“Call me crazy, but I am not a huge fan of the classic Mimosa. I’ve never been big on drinking orange juice in general, so as much as I love sparkling wine, I really don’t love it mixed with citrus juice and much prefer it on its own. This version is unique because it swaps out the orange for spiced apple cider, which I quite enjoyed compared to the original. It’s seasonal and pretty delicious for what it is, but admittedly, it didn’t blow me away because its name pretty much says it all. That’s the beauty of simple cocktail like this though. Make these at a fall brunch, and they’re sure to be a hit with most guests.”
