Cocktail History

The Cold Brew Brandy Alexander is a Sips From Scripts original cocktail we created as a mocha-flavored variation of the classic Brandy Alexander. It’s made by tweaking the proportions of the brandy, crème de cacao, and cream in the original and adding Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, a unique coffee-flavored ingredient from Australia.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Cognac: This is the base spirit. It’s a type of brandy made from distilled white wine in Cognac, France. We used Courvoisier VSOP Cognac because it has a rich mouthfeel and a delightful brandy spice with notes of peach, almond, and cinnamon. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Escape Mocktails Non-Alcoholic Cognac Alternative in place of the brandy.

Coffee Liqueur: This gives the drink its deep coffee flavor. We used Mr. Black Spirits Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur because, in our opinion, is the best coffee liqueur on the market. It’s much less sugary than others and has a bolder coffee flavor.

Dark Crème De Cacao: This is a chocolate liqueur that adds dark cocoa notes. We used one made by DeKuyper.

Heavy Cream: This is a thick, high-fat milk product. We prefer to use half & half instead of heavy cream because it’s lower in calories.

Coffee Beans: These are the garnishes. They float on top of the drink and add a bit more mocha aroma.

Tasting Notes

The Cold Brew Brandy Alexander is a brooding beverage with chocolate notes at the start, a slight burn from the brandy that’s present throughout but not overwhelming, a distinct coffee flavor that lingers through the sip and after the swallow, and a rich creamy texture.

Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: Even though we’re polar opposites when it comes to coffee (Alex drinks it all the time, and Kendall never does), we both loved this cocktail and promptly placed it in our top five favorite dessert drinks we’ve tried so far.
