Cocktail History

The Cold Brew Brandy Alexander is a Sips From Scripts original cocktail that was created as a mocha-flavored variation of the classic Brandy Alexander. It’s made by tweaking the proportions of the brandy, chocolate liqueur, and cream used in the original before adding Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, a strong coffee liqueur made in Australia.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Cognac: This is a type of brandy made in Cognac, France with distilled white wine. We used Courvoisier VSOP Cognac because it has a rich mouthfeel and a delightful brandy spice with notes of peach, almond, and cinnamon. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Escape Mocktails Non-Alcoholic Cognac Alternative in place of the brandy.

Coffee Liqueur: This is a liqueur made with coffee, spices, sugar, and alcohol. We used Mr. Black Spirits Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur because it has a bold coffee flavor with very little sweetness. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Lyre’s Coffee Original Non-Alcoholic Spirit in place of the coffee liqueur.

Dark Crème De Cacao: This is a liqueur made with dark chocolate, spices, sugar, and alcohol. We used DeKuyper Crème De Cacao Dark Liqueur because it’s flavorful and affordable. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Monin Premium Dark Chocolate Syrup in place of the dark chocolate liqueur.

Heavy Cream: This is a thick, high-fat milk product. We used half & half instead of heavy cream because it’s lower in calories. For a dairy-free version of this drink, try Silk Dairy-Free Heavy Whipping Cream Alternative in place of the cream.

Coffee Beans: This is the a seed of the Coffea plant.

Bartending Tools

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:

Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. We used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Boston Shaker: This is used to shake ingredients. We used the Boston shaker from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Hawthorne Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is shaken. We used the A Bar Above Hawthorne Strainer.

Tweezers: This is used to place the garnish on the drink. We used one from the Stainless Steel Food Tweezers Set.

Tasting Notes

The Cold Brew Brandy Alexander is a brooding beverage with chocolate notes at the start, a slight burn from the brandy that’s present throughout but not overwhelming, a distinct coffee flavor that lingers through the sip and after the swallow, and a rich creamy texture.

Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: Even though we’re polar opposites when it comes to coffee (Alex drinks it all the time, and Kendall never does), we both loved this cocktail and promptly placed the Cold Brew Brandy Alexander in our top five favorite dessert drinks we’ve tried so far.
