Cocktail History

The Coruscant Cooler is a Star Wars cocktail that was created at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, an attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California. Served at Ronto Roasters at Black Spire Outpost inside the park, the recipe, which is named for the Imperial Center and capital of the galaxy in the Star Wars universe, mixes spiced whiskey with tart cranberry, lime, sweet vermouth, and cherry to create a simple and palatable refresher.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Bourbon: This is a type of whiskey made in the United States with at least 51% corn, grains, malted barley, and water. This recipe specifically calls for Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Spiritless Kentucky 74 Non-Alcoholic Bourbon Whiskey in place of the whiskey.

Cranberry Juice: This is the liquid juice of a cranberry. We used Simply Cranberry Cocktail.

Lime Juice: This is the liquid juice of a lime. We used freshly squeezed lime juice.

Sweet Vermouth: This is a fortified wine made with grapes, sugar, botanicals, herbs, sugar, and alcohol. We used Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth because it’s a high quality vermouth with dark notes of herbs, figs, licorice, cinnamon, and cocoa. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Apéritif Rosso in place of the sweet vermouth.

Maraschino Liqueur: This is a liqueur made with Maraschino cherries, honey, herbs, spices, sugar, and alcohol. We used Luxardo Maraschino Orginale Liqueur because it has a distinct earthy aroma and sweet cherry flavor. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Trader Vic’s Premium Maraschino Cherry Syrup in place of the cherry liqueur.

Lime Slice: This is a slice of lime that has been cut into a half wheel shape.

Cherry: This is a fruit that has been soaked in brandy and rich syrup. We used Luxardo Maraschino Cherries because they’re high quality and delicious.

Bartending Tools

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:

Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. We used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Boston Shaker: This is used to shake ingredients. We used the Boston shaker from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Hawthorne Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is shaken. We used the A Bar Above Hawthorne Strainer.

Paring Knife: This is used to cut ingredients. We used the OXO Good Grips 3.5 Inch Paring Knife.

Juicer: This is used to juice ingredients. We used the ALEEHAI Manual Fruit Juicer.

Cocktail Pick: This is used to hold the garnish. We used one from the I-MART Stainless Steel Cocktail Pick Set.

Tasting Notes

The Coruscant Cooler features dry aromas of cranberry with a slight touch of maraschino cherry, and it has a fairly dry flavor made largely of bourbon and cranberry on the forefront with touches of vermouth depth and maraschino sweetness on the swallow.

Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: This cocktail was quite tasty, but it ultimately didn’t blow us away due to its simplicity and somewhat overpowering cranberry flavor. The Coruscant Cooler is certainly refreshing though, and we imagine it would be enjoyed by those who have less experience drinking craft cocktails.

Alex’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐
“Although far from revolutionary, this cocktail hits the spot when you’re looking for a fairly dry thirst quencher. The combination of bourbon and cranberry is as old as time, while the introduction of a bit of lime for balance and the vermouth and maraschino add a bit of much-needed depth. I definitely won’t say this has been my favorite cocktail of the Star Wars bunch but it certainly isn’t bad, and that’s not even taking into account its absolutely gorgeous red color.”

Kendall’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐
“I found this Star Wars cocktail to be good but not anything too memorable. Bourbon and cranberry are a tasty combination, but there was a lot of cranberry compared to the other ingredients. Alex and I both agreed that we’d prefer to dial that back a bit. I think I would love this more if it wasn’t such a large drink and was making served up instead of on the rocks. Then again, this is clearly meant to be a drink you order inside a theme park, and it gets the job done in that regard.”
