Cocktail History
The Fall Mojito is a Sips From Scripts original cocktail that was created in 2023. The recipe is a simple variation of the classic that also calls for white rum, citrus, syrup, muddled mint, and fizzy soda water, but it swaps out the simple syrup for apple cinnamon and replaces lime with lemon for more balanced autumnal flavor.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
White Rum: This is a type of rum made with molasses or sugar cane juice and alcohol that is filtered and bottled right away without the aging process. We used The Real McCoy 3 Year Old White Rum because it has a smooth texture and flavors of toasted caramel, coconut, and marzipan. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic White Cane Spirit in place of the rum.
Apple Cinnamon Syrup: This is a sweetener made with apple cider, cinnamon sticks, and white sugar. We made ours at home using Alex’s sous vide recipe.
Lemon Juice: This is the liquid juice of a lemon. We used freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Soda Water: This is a type of water that has been infused with carbon dioxide gas under pressure. We used Topo Chico Sparkling Mineral Water because it’s light, essentially flavorless, and refreshing.
Mint Leaves: This is an herb. We used Mojito mint leaves.
Apple: This is a red fruit with a mealy texture. We used a Honeycrisp apple.
Bartending Tools
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:
Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. We used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Boston Shaker: This is used to shake ingredients. We used the Boston shaker from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Hawthorne Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is shaken. We used the A Bar Above Hawthorne Strainer.
Muddler: This is used to muddle ingredients. We used the HQY Stainless Steel Cocktail Muddler.
Paring Knife: This is used to cut ingredients. We used the OXO Good Grips 3.5 Inch Paring Knife.
Juicer: This is used to juice citrus. We used the ALEEHAI Manual Fruit Juicer.
Apple Corer: This is used to core and slice apples. We used the OXO Good Grips Apple Corer, Slicer, & Divider.
Tasting Notes
The Fall Mojito has a slightly tart apple aroma and a lightly spiced taste that features mint and apple mingled with light rum, and the aftertaste has more apple flavor along with the familiar Mojito finish of citrus and mint.
Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: For such a simple ingredient swap, the Fall Mojito was incredibly good. It still ticked all of the beloved classic’s boxes but had the flavors of a fall orchard on a crisp afternoon.

Alex’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“This is a simple product of the practically patented Mr. Potato Head method where we take one ingredient in an existing drink and swap it out for another to get an entirely new recipe. In this case, the original Mojito’s simple syrup is swapped for our homemade apple cinnamon. The result is an autumnal combination of harvest apples, slight spice, and the familiar mint of the classic, all of which mingle wonderfully with balance coming from the lemon and simple white rum.”—
Kendall’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐
“I really love the classic Mojito and am always excited when we come across a seasonal variation. They usually swap out the mint for another herb, but this one sticks pretty closely to the go-to specs while adding in the delicious flavors of apple and cinnamon to the mix. I really liked this version and agree with Alex’s idea of using lemon instead of lime. It still largely tasted like a Mojito, which is the point. I’d maybe just up the apple and cinnamon notes a little more if I made it again.”
