Cocktail History
The Kohler Mint Cocoa is a Sips From Scripts original cocktail that was created for Kohler Chocolate Mint Brandy. The recipe, which is essentially a Hot Peppermint Patty with more complexity and higher alcohol content, mixes the decadently flavored spirit with the classic hot cocoa template of milk, hot chocolate mix, and whipped cream, and it also adds peppermint for a delightful and festive cooling quality.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredient:
Milk: This is a liquid rich in calcium and protein that is produced by mammals. We used Prairie Farm Vitamin D Whole Milk. For a dairy-free version of this drink, try oat milk in place of the milk.
Chocolate Mint Brandy: This is a type of brandy made with chocolate, peppermint, sugar, and alcohol. We used Kohler Chocolate Mint Brandy because it has a delicious brandy flavor with deep chocolate and mint notes. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Escape Mocktails Non-Alcoholic Cognac Alternative in place of the brandy.
White Peppermint Schnapps: This is a liqueur made with peppermint, spearmint, sugar, and alcohol. We used DeKuyper Peppermint Schnapps Liqueur because it has a bright minty flavor. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Monin Premium Peppermint Syrup in place of the mint liqueur.
Dark Crème De Cacao: This is a liqueur made with dark chocolate, spices, sugar, and alcohol. We used DeKuyper Crème De Cacao Dark Liqueur because it’s flavorful and affordable. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Monin Premium Dark Chocolate Syrup in place of the dark chocolate liqueur.
Hot Cocoa Mix: This is a sweetened chocolate product made with ground cocoa beans and sugar. We used Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Premium Hot Cocoa Mix because it’s rich and chocolatey.
Whipped Cream: This is heavy cream that has been whipped and beaten until it is light and fluffy. We used Reddi-Wip Original Dairy Whipped Topping because it offers easier application than making whipped cream at home using an iSi Cream Whipper. For a dairy-free version of this drink, try Reddi-Wip Non-Dairy Coconut Milk Whipped Topping in place of the whipped cream.
Grated Chocolate: This is candy made with cocoa, sugar, and milk. We used a Divine Milk Chocolate Bar.
Bartending Tools
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:
Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. We used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Saucepan: This is used to warm the ingredients. We used the Cuisinart 3-Quart Stainless Steel Saucepan with Cover.
Spoon: This is used to stir the ingredients. We used the OXO Good Grips Silicone Spoon.
Ladle: This is used to transfer the drink to cups. We used the OXO Good Grips Silicone Everyday Ladle.
Grater: This is used to grate spices or citrus peel. We used the OXO Good Grips Grater.
Tasting Notes
This Kohler Mint Cocoa features delicious aromas of whipped cream and cocoa and the taste of rich, sweet chocolate accented with effervescent mint plus a bit of brandy spiciness that lingers in the throat.
Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: We both absolutely adored this drink and have already made it several times since dreaming it up. Thanks to the brandy, the Kohler Mint Cocoa has a nice blend of chocolate indulgence and alcoholic bite that, when paired, make us never want to go back to traditional hot cocoa ever again.

Alex’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“This drink is absolutely delicious and definitely fit for a travel mug. We were inspired by the Hot Peppermint Patty, which itself was inspired by Archer’s taste for alcohol at any time and place. We added the delicious Wisconsin-made Kohler Mint Chocolate Brandy, which gave it a whole new dimension and took it from a liqueur-accented hot chocolate to a full-fledged cocktail. The brandy’s sweet notes and spices definitely added a lot of extra character to what was already established. This is a drink for a night in, unlike Sterling Archer’s original, and is best enjoyed next to a fireplace underneath a blanket.”—
Kendall’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“This is hands down my all-time favorite Christmas cocktail, and it’s going to be hard to unseat it. This boozy hot chocolate is so delicious, with it’s creamy texture, deep cocoa taste, and hint of mint from both the decadent brandy and the peppermint schnapps. 10/10, absolutely recommend making this one!”
