Cocktail History

The Kohler Mint Cocoa is a Sips From Scripts original Christmas cocktail that we created as a boozier variation of the Hot Peppermint Patty shared last year.

After our wedding in October, we ended up receiving a cash gift in the mail a few weeks later than the others and decided to splurge on a couple of special bottles we’d each been eyeing. One of Kendall’s picks was Kohler’s Chocolate Mint Brandy, a dessert spirit made locally to us that we knew would be incredible in holiday cocktails. Our first experimentation with it is this original recipe. If you tried the Hot Peppermint Patty and loved it, you are in for a treat with this one because it’s similar but dialed up to eleven in decadence.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredient:

Milk: This is the base of the drink. We prefer milk instead of water in hot chocolate because the taste is richer and more flavorful. To cut down on the calories, you can also use skim milk, which we often do.

Kohler Chocolate Mint Brandy: This is the spirit. It makes the drink boozier and lends more deep chocolate and mint notes to the cocktail.

White Peppermint Schnapps: This adds cool peppermint flavor. We used DeKuyper’s, but whichever peppermint schnapps you can find will work.

Dark Crème De Cacao: This adds dark cocoa notes. We also used one of these made by DeKuyper.

Cocoa Powder: This adds the majority of the chocolate flavor. We prefer Ghirardelli’s Cocoa Powder because it’s richer and more chocolatey than most of the other hot cocoa mixes we’ve tried.

Whipped Cream: This is swirled on top for foamy texture and additional sweetness. We used Reddi-Wip from the can for easier application, but you can also make whipped cream at home using an iSi Cream Whipper.

Grated Chocolate: This adds a hint of chocolate flavor to the whipped cream topping. We used a Divine Milk Chocolate Bar we had on hand, but you can use any baking chocolate bar.

Tasting Notes

This Kohler Mint Cocoa features delicious aromas of whipped cream and cocoa and the taste of rich, sweet chocolate accented with effervescent mint plus a bit of brandy spiciness that lingers in the throat.

Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: We both absolutely adored this drink and have already made it several times since dreaming it up. Thanks to the brandy, it has a nice blend of chocolate indulgence and alcoholic bite that when paired make us never want to go back to traditional hot cocoa ever again.

Alex’s Take: “This drink is absolutely delicious and definitely fit for a travel mug. We were inspired by our Hot Peppermint Patty, which itself was inspired by Archer’s taste for alcohol at any time and place. We added the delicious Wisconsin-made Kohler Mint Chocolate Brandy, which gave it a whole new dimension and took it from a liqueur-accented hot chocolate to a full-fledged cocktail. The brandy’s sweet notes and spices definitely added a lot of extra character to what was already established. This is a drink for a night in, unlike Sterling Archer’s original, and is best enjoyed next to a fireplace underneath a blanket.”

Kendall’s Take: “This is hands down my all-time favorite Christmas cocktail, and it’s going to be hard to unseat it. This boozy hot chocolate is so delicious, with it’s creamy texture, deep cocoa taste, and hint of mint from both the decadent brandy and the peppermint schnapps. 10/10, absolutely recommend making this one!”
