Cocktail History

The Kohler Mint Cocoa is a Sips From Scripts original Christmas cocktail that we created as a more alcoholic variation of the Hot Peppermint Patty after buying a bottle of Kohler’s Chocolate Mint Brandy. Our first experimentation with the decadently flavored spirit was this recipe made with milk, peppermint, cocoa, whipped cream, and brandy, which was also the inspiration for its name.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredient:

Milk: This is the base of the drink. It’s a liquid rich in calcium and protein that is produced by mammals. We used Prairie Farm Vitamin D Whole Milk because we prefer milk in hot chocolate instead of hot water. For a dairy-free version of this drink, try oat milk in place of the milk.

Chocolate Mint Brandy: This is the base spirit. We used Kohler Chocolate Mint Brandy because it has a delicious brandy flavor with deep chocolate and mint notes. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Escape Mocktails Non-Alcoholic Cognac Alternative in place of the brandy.

White Peppermint Schnapps: This is a type of spirit made with peppermint, spearmint, sugar, and alcohol. We used DeKuyper White Peppermint Schnapps because it has a bright mint flavor and is affordable. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Monin Non-Alcoholic Peppermint Syrup in place of the liqueur.

Dark Crème De Cacao: This is a type of spirit made with dark chocolate, vanilla, sugar, and alcohol. We used DeKuyper Dark Crème De Cacao because it has a delightful dark cocoa flavor and is affordable. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Monin Non-Alcoholic Dark Chocolate Syrup in place of the liqueur.

Cocoa Powder: This is an unsweetened chocolate product made with ground cocoa beans. We used Ghirardelli’s Cocoa Powder because it’s rich and chocolatey.

Whipped Cream: This is one of the garnishes. It’s heavy cream that has been whipped and beaten until it is light and fluffy. We used Reddi-Wip from the can for easier application, but you can also make whipped cream at home using an iSi Cream Whipper. For a dairy-free version of this drink, try Reddi-wip Non-Dairy Coconut Milk Whipped Topping in place of the whipped cream.

Grated Chocolate: This is the other garnish. We used a Divine Milk Chocolate Bar.

Tasting Notes

This Kohler Mint Cocoa features delicious aromas of whipped cream and cocoa and the taste of rich, sweet chocolate accented with effervescent mint plus a bit of brandy spiciness that lingers in the throat.

Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: We both absolutely adored this drink and have already made it several times since dreaming it up. Thanks to the brandy, it has a nice blend of chocolate indulgence and alcoholic bite that when paired make us never want to go back to traditional hot cocoa ever again.

Alex’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“This drink is absolutely delicious and definitely fit for a travel mug. We were inspired by our Hot Peppermint Patty, which itself was inspired by Archer’s taste for alcohol at any time and place. We added the delicious Wisconsin-made Kohler Mint Chocolate Brandy, which gave it a whole new dimension and took it from a liqueur-accented hot chocolate to a full-fledged cocktail. The brandy’s sweet notes and spices definitely added a lot of extra character to what was already established. This is a drink for a night in, unlike Sterling Archer’s original, and is best enjoyed next to a fireplace underneath a blanket.”

Kendall’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“This is hands down my all-time favorite Christmas cocktail, and it’s going to be hard to unseat it. This boozy hot chocolate is so delicious, with it’s creamy texture, deep cocoa taste, and hint of mint from both the decadent brandy and the peppermint schnapps. 10/10, absolutely recommend making this one!”
