Cocktail History

The Wisconsin Bloody Mary is a Sips From Scripts original brunch cocktail that we created as a variation of the classic Bloody Mary. It’s traditionally made with vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, salt, and pepper; meanwhile, ours calls for bacon-flavored vodka, a simple yet zesty tomato mix, a Tajín rim, and several Wisconsin-inspired garnishes.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Bacon Vodka: This is the base spirit. We went with Chippewa River Distillery’s Trumie’s Bacon Vodka because it’s made locally to us.

Bloody Mary Mix: This is the tomato-based liquid mix that adds the drink’s tomato flavor. We chose Zing Zang Bloody Mary Mix because it also adds carry, celery, beet, lettuce, onion, and parsley juices as well as salt, pepper, and other spices for even more flavor.

Worcestershire Sauce: This is a savory sauce made from soy sauce and vinegar. We used one from our local grocery store.

Celery Stick: This is one of the garnishes. It adds more celery flavor.

Meat Stick: This is another garnish. We used Crescent Meats Original Meat Sticks because they’re made in Wisconsin.

Cheddar Cheese Curd: This is also a garnish. We went with Ellsworth Cheddar Cheese Curds because they’re our favorite.

Pickle Spear: This is a garnish. We used Famous Dave’s Signature Spicy Pickle Spears because they’re made in Wisconsin.

Green Olive: This is the last garnish.

Tajín: This is added to the rim for a hint of chili lime flavor on the tongue as you sip.

Tasting Notes

The Wisconsin Bloody Mary features the noticeable aroma of tomato, the initial taste of Tajín followed by savory tomato, and notes of bacon and Worcestershire sauce on the swallow.

Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: We’ve tried some wild variations of this cocktail over the years, but Alex always comes back to this simpler one because it’s his favorite. Kendall can’t really drink much of a Bloody Mary because the tomato juice gives her heartburn, but the few sips she sneaked when tasting this one were delicious.
