Cocktail History
The Pear Cobbler is an autumn cocktail that was created by Nick Mautone and included in his book The Artisanal Kitchen: Holiday Cocktails. It’s made using the the sour template with brandy as its base, pear liqueur for fruit flavor, and sour mix for balance and frothiness.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
Cognac: This is the base spirit. We used Courvoisier VSOP Cognac because it has a rich mouthfeel, adds notes of peach, almond, and cinnamon, and brings a delightful brandy spice at the end.
Pear Liqueur: This is a fruit liqueur that adds pear flavor. We used Mathilde Poire Liqueur because it offers rich flavor and is a high quality liqueur.
Lemon Sour Mix: This is a mixer made with lemon juice, lime juice, sugar, egg white, and water. We made ours using Alex’s recipe.
Triple Sec: This is an orange liqueur. It adds sweet citrus flavors that balance out the other dry ingredients. We went with Cointreau because it’s one of the highest quality triple secs on the market.
Dried Pear Slice: This is the garnish. It adds more pear aroma and flavor.
Tasting Notes
The Pear Cobbler features the aroma of pear and citrus, starts with the initial taste of pear and frothy lemon lime flavor, and ends with a hint brandy spice on the finish.
Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: The recipe in the book didn’t call for brandy, so we added a bit of that to make it boozier and add more spiciness. With that addition, this because a truly dazzling dessert drink. We both loved it and would make it again, although we could each only drink one glass because it was so sweet.
